Damaging Winds in Fairbanks

July 2017

Unusually strong winds associated with a large storm in the Bering Sea brought widespread power outages to the greater Fairbanks area on July 24. Winds gusting 35–40 mph over several hours brought branches onto power lines. More than 8000 Golden Valley Electric Association customers lost power, and a few were without power for more than eight hours. Alaska Public Media featured the event as, "Strong winds sweep through Interior."
